Common mechanical seal face material

1, SIC

SIC: high hardness, excellent corrosion resistance, high thermal conductivity, low friction coefficient than carbon-graphite

Reaction bonded silicon carbide(RBSIC): Contains free silicon ,the wear and lubricating characteristics of reaction bonded silicon carbide are the best of all hard face materials., can’t be used in caustics, amines,sodium hydroxide medium.

Sintered Silicon Carbide (SSiC): Doesn’t contain free silicon, can be used in virtually all corrosive environments.

2, Carbon graphite

Carbon-graphite has the character of self-lubrication and grind-in during operation, is the most widely used material

Resin Impregnated:

corrosion resistant
wear resistance, compatibility with metal carbides
lower modulus of elasticity and temperature limits

Most wildly used material

Metal(Antimony) Impregnated:

• a higher modulus of elasticity and temperature limit

• less corrosion resistance High-pressure, limited lubrication(flashing hydrocarbon),high temperature applications.

3, Tungsten carbide seal face

Better toughness and rigid characteristics.
